I have a family based GC and my family is in bay area. Due to fate, I had been forced to stay in India with my parents since Feb’03. However, I visited USA in July 2003 to see my family and went back to India after a week stay.
For how long I can extend my temporary stay in India with the no violation of GC rules. Please note that I have not applied for a re-entry permit. Can you please help me out on this?

You can be out for a max of 5 months and 30 days at each time or else your residency status will be at stake. Please contact the US Embassy for follow up.
