Help with australian citizen in us migrating back to aus w/ wife of 15 yrs
Hi, First off, sorry if I'm not in the right place or anything like that. I'm new to forums and didn't intend to upset anyone. I need help with a difficult situation. I am an Australian citizen who came to the USA on a family visa in 1976. I am living on a permanent resident green card. I wish to move back to Australia with my wife of 15 years who is an American citizen and my son who is 21 yrs old and in university. I need a clear path to follow so as to fill out the right forms and not waste dollars on the wrong ones. These are the issues I am trying to resolve:
1. For myself, I understand that I will need an Aus passport since I have never held one of my own. They said I will need my original birth certificate or a reissued gov. copy. I have a copy from Victoria signed as a certified copy by the registrar that was issued in 1993. Does anybody know if this is acceptable? The embassy told me they cannot accept copies. I'm a little confused. If anybody has a pic of what a reissued certificate looks like it would be helpful.
2. What do I need to do other than fill out the form online to lodge an application for my son as an Aus citizen by descent? Is this the right process to get him over there along with obtaining an Aus passport as well?
3. Can my wife become a citizen of Aus while still here in the USA? Or, does she need to travel there on a partner visa first and be a resident before applying for Aus citizenship? The IARC (Immigration Advice and Rights Centre in Sydney) website says there are waivers on residency requirements for partners but wasn't very specific. I ask mainly because the cost of a visa versus citizenship and passports is quite dear.
4. Lastly, Does anyone know what I need to do in order to transport my cats there as well and about how long the process can take?
Any help with these matters would be appreciated. We are trying to create a timeline for dismantling our lives here in the USA and really just need to know how to begin the process, costs and possible travel for interviews, etc.
