Travelling to India with US born baby having Indian passport

Has anybody here has recent experience on traveling to India with a US born child on his/her Indian passport? Did you face any issue while leaving US by showing Indian passport and no I94?
Please share your experiences. We are planning to do same.
We are aware of some people doing this without problem few years back, wanted to check if anyone has a recent experience.
