Citizenship Test & Green Card

Hello,
we have a family member that is taking the citizenship test soon. She will have dual citizenship (Hungary). Once she takes the test, does she give up the green card immedialty? Does she have to wait until she gets a US Passport to leave to go back to Hungary? Is there a waiting period? Any help would be great, many thanks dth

You have to surrender the green card on the day you go for your oath. You will get naturalization certificate that is your proof of US citizenship. You can' really travel from that time until your get your passport.

Therefore, if you think you need to travel in hurry, as soon as you get out of the building after finishing oath, rush to the post office and apply for expedited passport. You should get your passport in about 10 days.
