When the economy is so bad in the US, can someone please explain me why is the US dollar appreciating against other currencies like Euro and Rupees?

I am no economist but my thought is due to the slowdown across the board and drop in the markets all over the world. It is more like the other currencies have devalued themselves due to their dependence on the USD.
The rising inflation elsewhere has also contributed. Other economic experts can chime in.
