  • US Kid ..........with Indian Parents Settling In India

    Hi All
    Happy new year.

    Topic:
My kid has US citizenship which I'd prefer to maintain at least for now.
I am considering to settle in India permanently in coming time.
Considering this, clearly the kid will start getting education in Indian system.

I am looking for answers to the following questions:

Q1 Is the birth record of the child maintained separately in India, if yes, what is the procedure to be followed ?

Q2 Is the child eligible to get added on gvt documents such as ration card?

Q3 What is the education fee structure for the child in India (same as India born kid, or same as US kid ) ?

Q4 Does the document (ex. school leaving certificate) say citizenship as "Indian" ?

    best regards

    Dear Sandeep,
I know something about your qusetions. When I was in school, we had a classmate who was England born, but his parents were Indian. They use to pay same fee like other indian children, when we got our certificates...... I remember that it was written NON RESIDING. If the child is not holding Indian passport, the school leaving certificate will never say it INDIAN.

Upto schools the fee structure is not different but for Universities...... they have different fee structure. They indeed charge more from NRI's... but the favour they give to NRI's is easy admissions, even to top class universities (from NRI quota)

I don't know about Ration Cards but its my assumption that the name addition of your child in Ration Card depends upon the Passport.
You should contact some Muncipal Commitee officer etc in India to verify.
The place of your settlement in India influences many factors, so be careful about the place. The capital cities are much more tougher to rules. I hope that my answers are correct. Anyhow, it will be benaficial for you to consult any Muncipal Commitee Officer in India. Even any notary can tell about Ration cards.
