  • Claiming my Social Security

I am a UK citizen and have been living and working in the US for the last 6 years on a L2 visa. Before this I was working in the UK for 4 years.

I heard that its possible to bring back my contributions to Social Security thru the Totalization agreement signed between US and UK.

Is this true, and how is the best way to approach this?

    Thanks in advanced.

You cannot bring back social security benefits. The totalization agreement means that those in this agreement will honor the time / benefit you earned in another country.
In your case, The UK requires a min 11yrs for reduced benefit(if eligible). This means, your accured work time in the US (6yrs) counts towards the 11yrs you are required to have in the UK.
The agreement also prevents double taxation. refer to this article.
