Visit New York during halt for 9 hours at the airport

Hi

I am first time visitor on this site and i have a question.

I have been staying in NJ and then Chicago from 2 years and i am on H1 visa.

Next week i am flying back to india permanently. I have a connected flight from chicago to New york (JFK) and from New york to Mumbai.

There is a halt of 7 hours at the airport for the next connected flight to Mumbai,
my question is can i go out of the airport and do some site seeing in New York for few hours and return back to catch up my connected flight to mumbai.

Sure you can. You will leave the US from NY.

Yes, you can.

However, keep in mind that you will be flying from JFK and most of the tourist places are in Manhattan which is somewhat far. You may not have enough time to see something worthwhile in total 7 hours including the commute. Make sure you are able to get back to the airport in time.

i am with my wife, she is on h4.

Correct me if i am wrong. As i wil lbe surrendring my I-94 at chicago airport.

Do i / she require any of type document, or have get some type of ducment before leaving the airport.
