2hrs Layover in Canada

Hi,
I hold an Indian passport and live in USA with a valid H1B visa till Dec 2016. My wife is in H4. We will be visiting India in May and want to know if its a good idea to book tickets with 2hr layover in Vancouver, Canada. Should we get a transit visa even if we don't get out of the airport? Please help.

Canadian transit visa

Hi,

You DO NEED a transit visa even if you wish to stay ''airside''. This is because much like the US, in Canada there is no such thing as sterile transit, meaning you will have to pass through immigration and customs even when you're in transit to a third country. Holding a US visa in this case is not a sufficient ground for exemption. Only green card holders can travel to/through Canada without a visa.
