Cuban living in USA married to Canadian

I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is from Cuba but living in the USA. She is not a resident in the USA yet and has to wait 5-6 months before applying for green card.

Can I start the sponsorship papers for her to come to Canada before she gets US residency or will there be problems? How can we find a faster way to be together? Right now she's can't visit me and the papers take so long
