I am getting assistance from an immigration lawyers firm called Matthew Jeffery Barrister & Solicitor in Toronto. They told me that it is possible to apply for spousal sponsorship while applying for PR. Is it possible ?

I would think the Immigration Lawyer you hired would be able to advise you best.
If he says you can do that, as long as he's up to speed on Canadian Immigration law, I would trust what he says.

If you have doubts, maybe he's not the lawyer you should have gone with.

The only people who can sponsor anyone are citizens and permanent residents. Therefore, your permanent residency must be finalized first.
