  • Why...

Why is it that a growing amount of people who are on a H1b visa in the USA, are wanting to apply for immigraion to Canada?
The majority of posts on this forum include immigrants to America, that now want to go to Canada....

Is it not hard enough to get an american visa never mind going on to Canada from there??

I am ofcourse not talking about everyone but to me it almost seems greedy.... For example, an indian immigrant recieves an american visa after waiting years for it. They then stay in America for 1 1/2 years then want to apply for Canadian immigration. So, if successful the american visa they recieved is basically thrown away, and a new Canadian one eventually issued, meanwhile someone genuinely intent on wanting to go to America to live and work permenently missed out because this person, who wasnt really wanting to stay in the country, took their visa for just over a year then decided to throw it away and go to another country.

    Can anyone enlighten me..?

    Hurray for Curt!

Curt you have made a very exceptional mark on issuing this post. As with yourself i have totally agreed with your "facts" and I too am amazed at why any individual would go to that extent to get to the mighty USA and then give it all in for a possible life in Canada....of course I have never had the guts to make a post on this issue! I know that this site is frequented by many Indian or rather, people of Eastern origin which means to me that no matter where they apply to, they are going to get to be able to settle there as a skilled type immigrant. When i lived in Kansas between 1996 and 2003, the state wa s full of Eastern origined employees, all gainfully employed in high tech jobs with companies such as Honeywell, Verizon, Sprint, Sears, and I could go on and on. They hold very high eduucational backgrounds and they can command salaries and more so, skilled worker based immigration. I wish i were that intelligent as I would be able to migrate out of my present hell hole here in the Caribbean. But I agree totally that so many are in the US and they are trying to get to Canada. I am no wiz kid as you all know, but Canada has been giving off some very compelling "incentives" toward the goal of a life there. There is no doubt at all that the Canadian lifestyle is far more regimental and maintained than that of the US. It is way colder than the US but there is space to live and develop and there are many great companies some even into the highest level of technology. My cousin is married to a dude who is into fuel cell development and that is first class science...they are in BC. I really do not know the actual reason but I will admit that if I were young and now getting out of school, I would most certainly look toward Canada as a permanent destination rather than any other country. Although initially more expensive than life in the US the payoff comes into retirement when the medical benefits are realized as happened to two of my aunts who had knee and hip replacement surgeries that all were accounted for my their health benefits. Yes the SI and taxes will all pay off in one's old age!
But I am still very confused as to the initial question posed by this post and I sure hope that some of you highly educated people will respond. I certainly hope that any individual will respond because we are all trying to make a better live for ourselves, no matter how unintelligent that some of us are...like myself. So please by all means, please respond and share ideas as we may all be able to help each other. Curt great to see you back after sucha long abscence and I look forward to the answers to this question and more posts from you and others.

Im wondering are people finding it easier to go from the USA to Canada, because of the countries close proximity, as apposed to going from their country of origin (if other than US) to Canada...

Would anyone like to share their views, or indeed anyone who has done this, tell us your story?
