    Canadain PR living outside Canada

    Hi Everyone,

I'm a Canadian Permanent Resident(PR) and I lived in Canada for about 10 months after getting PR card and then moved to USA with my wife who is a Canadian citizen. Currently I'm on H1B visa and my wife is on H4 visa.

If I don't move back to Canada in next few months I'll loose my PR status.

Today I came across to this link which says that if you are accompanying your spouse(who is a Canadian Citizen) outside Canada then you meet the criteria for Residency Obligation and you won't loose your PR status

    heres the link

Can someone please tell me if I'm interpreting this correctly or I will loose my PR status if I don't move back to Canada.

Thanks very much for your time.

How long have you been outside of Canada? You have 5 years to satisfy your 2 years of actually living in Canada. Are you going to be out of Canada for more than that time?

I read what the CIG website says and I think you read it correctly. It makes sense to me. However, I would assume you will have to go back to Canada before your PR status expires.

      Thanks for the reply.

I've been out from Canada since last 3 and 1/2 yrs. I'm gonna talk to some lawyer and see what he says.

Can anyone else put some more light on this matter.

      Thanks again.
