  • Canadian PR travelling to US

    Hi,

I am an Indian citizen with Canadian PR and US visitor visa. I'll be travelling to US from India (and will be staying for few months) and after that will be visiting Canada from US.

    • If I come back to US from Canada, would I get new I-94 and will be allowed to stay 6 more months. Or 6 months gets counted starting from the first US arrival date (from India).
    • In case I decide to stay in US for 6 months and go to Canada from US, will I be able to reenter US from Canada to stay another 6 months?

    Thank you.

If you're a canadian PR, how come you will be "visiting Canada from the US" ? Either you're a PR or you're not.

In any case - on entering the US from India you would get an I-94 - allowed time of stay decided by CBP officer at POE.

Once you leave the US for Canada, when you come back, you may either be denied entry (if your first stay was close to the limit of your authorized stay and you're returning to the US too soon after leaving) or allowed to enter the country - but with a drastically reduced allowed stay.

General rule: you should stay outside the US 2x the time you stayed in the US - came & stayed for 6 months? Don't come back for a year.

Also - frequent travel to the US with frequent, long stays leads to the assumption you're actually living in the US, not in CA - jeopardizing both your visitor visa to the US, risking a possible ban to enter, and also maybe affecting your canadian PR status.

    In short: don't
