  • EAD/AP Combo Card Extension While Person Is In India

My wife's EAD/AP Combo card is expiring on 17th Mar 2015, would it be okay if she leaves the country now and i take care of the extension and send the new extended card or document to her via mail in India to let her comeback to USA using the new EAD/AP card/document?

    Appreciate your responses.

    Thank you

The combo card cannot be extended. The individual Work Authorization can be extended, but with a fee. The Advance Parole cannot normally be extended except under extraordinary circumstances.

Since he original combo card was good for a year, what is the status of your wife's Adjustment/Green Card application? Normally, she would have had her interview in about 6 months, after which the combo card is no longer valid.

I myself extended my EAD/AP card last year (Jan 2013), However i received my EAD as a card and 2 hard copies of AP documents to enter to USA. There was no interview for me when i received my GC end of last year, however for my wife we are still waiting for her to receive her GC though priority date is current now.

Now my question is, can my wife go to India with current AP while i apply for her AP extension as her current AP is going to expire soon.

      Thank you, appreciate your inputs.

I may have misstated how one "reinstates" the EAD/AP. As you discovered, you can't reinstate your "combo" card...a request for renewals would handle the Work Authorization (EAD) and Advance Parole separately. In my experience, the first extension of an EAD requires payment of a fee, whereas the original EAD was part of the $1,070 Adjustment fee. If you were able to obtain a new Advance Parole (with the traditional AP documents rather than on a combo card), that seems somewhat unusual as renewal of the AP is normally allowed only under exceptional circumstances.

I filled in separate applications but send the applications in a single packaged mail to USCIS if i remember correctly. I didn't pay any fees as it was my first time extension. I think you got wrong information.

You didn't actually apply for a new "combo" card, but you applied separately for the two benefits (EAD and AP). I just rechecked USCIS instructions, and my previously-assumed information about renewal EAD's was incorrect. A renewal EAD for a "C9," Adjustment of Status applicant, does not require a fee. I apologize for misstating the fee requirement.
