Question about I-131 Travel Document

Hi!

I'm now in process for applying for GC.
I am planning on filing I-131 with all other forms. My question is

1. DO I have to have dates when I will be traveling? (at this point I'm not 100% sure on the dates)
2. Can I just file I-131 just incase I do have to travel outside of the country? (for emergency relative health situation?)

I have the same question. I just want to visit my family in the New Year or just in case any emergency.
