Hello everyone,
I received my AP recently. I would like to travel to Spain but my passport will expire soon (a little longer than 1 month). I do plan on returning to the US before it expires. However, I am not sure if my passport needs to be valid for a certain amount of time upon returning (for example, 6 months.) I have also thought about renewing my passport here in the U.S. at my embassy, but I thought that could negatively impact my green card application, since my entire application is based on the original passport.
Can I leave the country with my original passport and AP? Should I renew my passport and leave with a new passport and original AP? Or does the original AP and green card application become invalid since I am changing the passport?
Also, are there certain restrictions on travel abroad with AP? Can it be for fun, on vacation? Can it be just to visit family in my home country?
