  • OPT EAD CARD ERROR (Country of Birth printed as Unknown)

Hi, I got my OPT EAD card today, I saw country of birth is printed as "Unknown".I think it is my mistake, i put only city name in my application. I am soo tensed about this. I am going to india in this December on 15 th. I got a job and i have offer letter and other supporting documents such as birth certificate. My start date is in ead is Jan 18 2016.

    #############Application Details################
EAD application was received to USCIS on September 29th and got message from USCIS about receipt number.
EAD card was delivered to me on October 23 rd (Processing took only 23 days)
***only country of birth is printed wrong as Unknown.
All other information on EAD (name, DOB, start date and end date is printed correctly)

Please please help me. Experts please share your ideas.

    1) is it safe to visit india with this error on ead card ? (Country of birth - Unknown)
    2) Does this issue really creates a problem during port of entry ?
    3) If we have unknown country of birth Does employer accept this ?
    4) Do i need to reapply again ?. somewhat tensed about processing time

i searched online did not get any conclusion. Please help me

    Thanks in advance

Hi, everyone. I also have faced the same problem where the country of birth is listed as unknown in the OPT EAD card. Has anyone faced the same issue, and if it will cause problem in the long run? Since we have additional documents such as passport and evidence from our school official, I think it should not be a problem for potential employers also. When reapplying for the replacement card, it will only take a long time to get new card, and since its my own mistake of not putting country name in the I-765 application form, according to USCIS website, I should be paying additional $380 filling fee (Which is absolutely not desirable). Does anyone has experience regarding this matter ? Do you suggest to reapply or stay with the card with unknown country of birth ? I feel that I should not reapply.

As long as you are on F-1 status, your I-20 serves as the document that grants you the right to live, study and work (in case of OPT) in US. So, as long as you have a valid I-20 you are good. You do not need a replacement EAD card. Employers should not care about your country of birth.

Same for the OP as well, when leaving US make sure your I-20 is properly endorsed by your DSO at the school. As long as the I-20 is valid and endorsed by DSO, you are authorized to re-enter US. You do not even need to mention or show your EAD card to the border immigration.
