Process for applying for an EAD

May I know the clear application process for an EAD for a L2 visa holder.
The process seems to be confusing as many people in this forum have mentioned their experiences filing with and without biometrics.
May I please know which of these will be better.

AFAIK, you need just the i-765 and the filing fee ($380 I think, but should be in the instructions). Check USCIS for latest filing fees always, in case the forms are outdated.
You do not need biometrics for H4/L2 EADs. Thanks.
