laid off, work on EAD, I-485 pending < 180 days

Hi,
I am in quite uncertain situation
L1 Visa
I-140 EB1: approved March 2016
I-485: submitted May 4 2016
EAD received, valid from 06/22/16 till 06/21/17 (term and conditions:none)
On August 10 application were transferred to Lee Summit (don't know what does it mean good or bad)
Field Office Processing Dates for Kansas City MO as of: June 30, 2016, I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status February 11, 2016



Now where the fun begins,
I got laid off, termination date 21 October 2016
180 days for i-485 will be in 31 Ocotber 2016

Questions:
Panic, Panic, Panic - what to do?
After study forum & materials, I still have a question:

case a)
Can I start to work on EAD before 31 October 2016 for new employer?
What will be my status in this case?
What will hapen if i-485 will be denied? Anyhing I should do to prevent it? Can new employer seek a new visa for me or I should leave country?

case b)
If I find job after 180 days passed, but will have a gap in employement (10 days), will it affect my status? Will I be still allowed to use AC21 or EAD card?

Good luck and find hints from immigration law.

This is really extremely tough that could have different opinion from different lawyers. Not sure which one can solve the problem. Maybe I may share info from friend.
