  • my wedding for expedite reason?

    Hello
    I applied for I-131, I-130, I-485, I-765 concurrently beginning of August 2016.
I got marriage certificate in the US and did a small wedding ceremony at the clerk's office, but I am going to have a real, big wedding in another country.
So, I trusted the words of my lawyer's office that I would get advance parole in 2 months. It turns out they were just baiting and they are claiming that they never said that!! Now I know that advance parole can take a while!

My status is still "Case was received beginning of August 2016"

I have an international flight booked for mid-Oct (I will probably have to cancel this). I already canceled a flight and hotel to another country (to see my fiance's parents).
Most importantly, I have my wedding scheduled (already paid for reservation and such) for December 3rd 2016 in another country!!!
I already told family and friends when my wedding will be on that date. If EAD card does not come out by early December, I can't be absent in my own wedding so I will have to pay fees to cancel.

My question is... can my wedding be a reason for expediting I-131?

No it can't. Ask the lawyer to give you your money back.

Considering your timeline, expect your EAD anytime from now.

A three-month delay to receive the EAD and Advance Parole is average. If your attorney told you "two months," he was off the mark. If he said "a couple of months," he was making a good faith approximation, though a tad too optimistic.

But to pay for a booked flight and to make wedding plans based on an expected timeframe was probably an error on your part. and the attorney's approximation could very well have been misunderstsood by you, especially since you may be an ESL speaker and such misunderstandings are quite common (incuding with two immigrant wives I have lived with for years).

The Advance Parole cannot normally be expedited during an Adjustment of Status process, since it won't even be started until after your Biometrics are completed.
