  • Replacement/renewal EAD

    Hi all,

I hope someone here can help me.
I'll start off with some background info first. I came to the US in August 2015 under a K1 Visa. Did everything the way you're supposed to do it, adjusted status, applied for EAD etc. That all went ok, got my EAD in December 2015. Then I got my GC (whenever that was... I forgot) and didn't realize they had spelled my name incorrectly. My husband pointed it out to me soon after I received it though and I went ahead and filled out all the forms to get it replaced. I figured we would send it in right away but due to unforeseen circumstances it got pushed off and we only managed to send it in in September. Now, because I had received my green card originally, I hadn't thought to re-apply for a work permit. Of course my EAD is expiring in December of this year, and obviously I will not have my replacement GC before the expiration. Somehow when I sent in the files for my replacement GC I had a disconnect in my brain and thought to myself "I don't have to re-apply for my EAD because I got my GC (which of course I had to send back)".
So what do I do now? Should I send in an application for replacement EAD still, and pay the fee, even though it will probably not arrive before my current one expires? Should I mention this to my boss and what if I don't? Do I actually HAVE to have an EAD since I did originally receive my GC - even though typo'd?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    L.
