  • Lost AP card while traveling, desperate for advice

    Hi all,

I'm currently on a trip with my wife, who is a US citizen, and I lost my EAD/AP combo card at the beginning of the trip. I am going through AOS and my I-485 interview is to be scheduled, so I don't have my green card yet. When I tried contacting the nearest US embassy in Seoul, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan, the folks there suggested that they can't issue a boarding foil for me for my trip back since I am not an LPR, and that the only way back would be to file for the EAD / AP card again which could take up to 3 months. I have read on this forum, however, of people who were able to obtain boarding foil / TL from US embassies or were able to make it back through other means. I have photocopies of all the documents, including the receipts and the EAD/AP card.

    1) If anyone has been through a similar situation, could you please share how you were able to make it back after losing the AP card? Which embassy did you contact, and how did the process go? Were you able to obtain any help even as non-LPR?

    2) My understanding is that you won't be able to even get on the plane to the US if you don't have the EAD/AP combo card, but let me know if you have had a different experience. I have read of people who were able to beg the airport customs people and be let through with photocopies / other documents, but wanted to see if anyone could comment on this.

My wife and I are desperate for solution, and would appreciate any advice. Our flight is in 3 days, and we really need some help. Thank you very much in advance.
