Can I apply for a SSN with my replacement EAD card receipt?

Hi, after waiting170 days for my initial EAD Card, I now have to apply for a replacement because it was lost in the mail.
I understand that I can use the replacement receipt in lieu of the actual card, in order to gain employment.

However, my question is, will I be able to use my replacement card receipt, along with a copy of my I-765 approval and I-485 receipt notice, to get a social security card?

Pls note this is a brand new application. I have never had a social security number before. I just got married to a US citizen and applied to change status in March.

I am living in Brooklyn, New York. And have a wife and 3-year-old daughter to provide for, hence my urgency to find work.

6 months without employment is bad enough, but I dont think I can afford to wait a further 3-4 to get my replacement EAD card.

I need to find employment now.

The only way for you to know is to go to a Social Security Administration office and see it for yourself.

I received the first EAD for my children this week - they had no Social since they were in a L2 visa. With the EAD card + passport + birth certificate I was able to apply for their social security and it will be arriving in the next 2 weeks.

What I know is that they asked for the EAD cards and they used something to verify its authenticity - they walked away for few minutes... So, I am not sure they can still do this with the replacement card receipt. I will not be surprised in case they do not accept because they cannot verify it but you should try. And you should request to expedite the emission of the new card in case they don`t issue your social.

However the person from SSA told me something I never heard about it before...that for some federal documents the USPS may not deliver to your mail box if they are not sure you live there. So they recommend to put a label with the names of people in your house inside the mailbox while waiting for Federal documents. If the mail man knows you (and in some small towns they do know all your family) this is not needed. Maybe this can also help...

US Citizen need help, I am still in Conditional Marriage

I am USA Citizen living in NY and I married my wife India in good faith. But She married me just to get entry in USA, she came to USA last year in 2016 which means we are still in conditional marriage. I want to divorce her because her family has threaten me when I went India after marriage. No physical abuse was done by me but physical abuse were done by her. Unfortunately I never did a police report, hoping she will stop. Now I do not live with her in the same apartment since Aug 20th 2017 but still paying her apartment rent, cellphone, cable, tv and house phone # and I do pay her money by check.

I have written proof of her on ******** that she will leave me once she gets the permanent status. In Aug she called various services like substance abuse, rape and domestic violence against me, the same day I was going to India to meet her parents to resolve the issue so that they can talk to thr daughter to stop physical abuse. I left the apartment by the time she called these services. Now she is playing the victim card to keep her status in USA. What are my option to divorce her and send her back because I do not want to live with her because of false allegations against me. She has already told me that I have to pay for her and she will take call my money and house in India.

I do not own a house or car but I do have Student debt over 30k under my name.

Is it possible for me to divorce her? Can I withdraw my Affidavit of Support? Should I let USCIS, US Embassy, ICE, Homeland Security about her intention? Where I can get a good Immigration/Divorce lawyer in NY? Please advice how to solve this problem.

Hi thanks for this. I am pretty doubtful too but will try once I have the new receipt. Meanwhile I was told by my lawyer that I can not expedite as my circumstances dont match the acceptable ones on USCIS. Which I find strange because these circumstances only apply to the first time you apply. If I have to apply for a second time then I believe technically I have a sudden emergency because it means I am no longer able to work for a minimum 3 more months on top of the 6 Ive already waited. Living for 9 months without work is not possible. Therefore its an emergency in my eyes. But according to my lawyer no. These are the criteria. I figured 1 or 2 would apply.

•Extreme emergent situation
•Humanitarian situation
•Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States
•Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government)

•Compelling interest of USCIS
