  • What should I know before traveling on AP/EAD card.

As the title states what are some things to know before traveling on AP? With the current backlog of AOS cases my spouse has had to renew her combo card and judging by the threads here along with the USCIS processing times chart it's not looking too promising. We've got a PD of Feb 2017 and are just waiting our interview but its getting pretty hectic and I feel awful that she cannot go see her family. Our attorney along with several others we've talked to DO NOT recommend traveling abroad right now with the current administration in place. So can those of you that have traveled with the AP under this administration share your experience?

I know that ultimately its at the discretion of the officer at the POE whether they allow you in or not but I'd like some experiences from others.

It should be fine to travel on an AOS-based AP. I haven't heard of people being denied entry on AP if their AOS is still pending and they left after the AP was granted.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

I travelled with the AP last month. I made the same questions for my Lawyer and he told me that if you are not responding for any crime or don't have any deportation open order it is all good. I know that if in the mean time that you are out, they decide deny your green card is bad too.

So, I went to Brazil and when I came back the officer, ask me for my passport and I gave him my passport and my card. He asked me what i do and I said that a i just received the work permission and was applying for positions, looking for a job. He told me that was everything ok and sent me to the secondary room to check the card and got the new stamp.

I waited some time while they were talking with other people tourist visa holders. And so they didn't asked me nothing, just stamped my passport and cancelled my old tourist visa and let me get in.

I have traveled twice on my AP this year. From LAX to London. No problems at all either end. All the Officers at LAX were really nice and friendly. The first time I came back I waited 15 minutes, the second time only 5.

Dont get scared by all the horror stories, if you have a valid AP/EAD and a pending AOS you should have no problems.
