  • Establishing credit card history

    Hello,

I'm really happy that I can finally work in the US since I got my SS. The big challenge though is how to build your credit card history or even applying for a new one. I really have no idea how to build my credit card fast and in the right way. so any tips in that matter will be a great help! Thank you everyone and good luck : )

apply for a credit card, and pay all but $50-100 of it off each month and download credit karma to track your credit score. once it's high enough, go ahead and pay the rest off. then you can try for a better card, or apply for a car, or a house or whatever you like.
This is strictly an opinion and should not be misconstrued as legal advice. The use of this information is strictly at your own risk.

Have your partner make you an authorized user.
My husband did that to me with his 2 credit cards, my credit now is excellent.
Also applied for 2 beginner credit cards too just to build history of myself.

      Goodluck!

Thank you for this great advice. I downloaded credit karma they couldn't verify me yet because I don't have any credit history

You will likely need to start with secured credit cards, which means you need to give them $500 and you get a $500 limit. After about 6-9 month of paying it you should get approved for a unsecured credit card, which means you do not need to give them money upfront.

You can be added to your wife's card but make sure you ask if it will be reported to the bureau, which may need to be a joint account and not just a authorized user.
