on june 3 I filled for i-765 extension , got i-797 notice of action, after waiting for 5 months,
on nov 4 ( after 155 days) I called uscis for service request, the customer service gave me a new referral number,
and told me that I should be getting an email soon, and I should be getting called from someone in about 15-30 days.
on nov 11 After a week , I didn't get any email, and when I checked my case status from uscis website,
it was written that the case with the new referral number that I got from service request hadn't been assigned yet.
on nov 13, I then contacted my congress representative, in my area, it is a Democratic congress, not Republican. In a matter of day,
I immediately got a reply back to my email and began exchanging information with my congress staff member,
the person told me that he would contact uscis on behalf of me. Also he said that it would probably take up to 2-4 weeks for the uscis to respond.
on nov 14 just a day after I contacted congress staff, my case status changed from "has not been assigned" to "your inquiry about why your case is taking longer than our processing time, referral number yyyyyyyyyyy, was assigned to an officer for response." , I also got an email from uscis: this is the whole email , with sensitive information redacted.

============================================================ ===============================
on nov 20 my status from uscis website changed to "new card is being produced",
and I also got my new i-797 notice of action mailed to me
on nov 27 my status from uscis website changed to "my card was mailed to me",
on nov 28 my status from uscis changed to "card was picked up by the United States Postal Service" with tracking number information
on nov 30 I got my EAD card.
so total it took me about 181 days to get EAD extension card.
my personal comment on this:
so there's a couple things to notice, in my case, it is really obvious that this whole "BACKLOG" thing the uscis gave us as an excuse is just a pure nonsense
because it turned out that a day after I contacted my congress staff, they immediately assigned my case and sent me an email with a specific reason because someone ( my congress staff representative) had called them about this issue, that's why they immediately worked on my case right away instead of just letting my paperwork rot inside their cabinet because they probably intentionally were trying to delay your case for the very last moment to get you to call them back again for the SECOND SERVICE REQUEST, which is ridiculous.
Had it been about "backlog" , uscis wouldn't have fast tracked my case the moment they got contacted from my congress staff representative.
It took me only 3 months under Obama administration, but 6 months under Trump administration (with congress help too)?
imho, backlog is just an excuse they gave you guys to make things difficult, if I had not contacted my congress, I probably would have to wait for another month or two so I can call uscis again for the second service request.
Just read the email uscis gave me, you can easily draw conclusion from it.
I also knew that that someone got an email from uscis immediately after they call for service request, and the others have to wait for ANOTHER MONTHS for second service
request
So my advice, don't wait too long! after 5 months and a week, if you don't get an email after service request from uscis, and you don't see your case gets assigned from uscis website, immediately contact your congress member.
again, I think I read from somewhere, that it wasn't the same if you get Republican as your representative congress where you live.
I read the guy said that the republican didn't help you fast track your case by contacting uscis, and instead they just told you to wait and see.
Again, contacting congress does matter a lot at least in my case, especially if you get Democratic party as your congress representative.
