    Hi
My husband has applied for EAD for both of us in California in 2nd week of March, 2004. How long usually it takes to get the EAD here in california? And in case if I don't get the EAD within 3 months, and if I take the temporart EAD Is there any problem ? Please let me know

There is no problem involved in getting interim EAD.

California Service Center currenlty processing January 20, 2004 applications for I-765(EAD). So you may have to wait for couple more months to receive the actual EAD.

After 90 days (check the received date in the I-765 receipt), you can to go to local district office to get the interim EAD. You need to show valid photo-id(passport/drivers license) and INS receipts (I-140 copy, I-485 copy, I-765 original).

After getting EAD, you need to apply SSN in order to work.

Today we received interim EAD from SFO and it took 4 hours. We started around 5am in the morning and reached there around 6am. We found around 15 people standing in the queue before us. And we got the EAD around 9:30am.

Just a suggestion, don't take cell-phone if it has camera, as it took additional time to go back to car and do the security checks again. Also avoid wearing lot of metal ornaments as it takes additional time for security.

Also they asked to fill the I-765 forms again even though we went their to get our interim EAD cards. So have forms filled before, it will save additional time.

Best of luck in getting interim EAD. Hope my reply answered your question.

    Regards,
    Ravi
