AP without EAD

Hi

I am required to travel outside US while my I-485 is filed. I have applied for EAD and AP but have not received them so far. I am being told I could apply for emergency AP with the nearest USCIS.

Can I travel back to US w/o EAD?

I am told I cannot work in US without EAD. Can I start working with the EAD if and once it has been received? (I am assuming EAD will come probably while I am away).

Please respond ASAP.

Most AP are for special reasons. Also do NOT travel oiutside without an AP and you cannot work without an EAD.

AP can take from 1-90 days to be approved. An EAD doesn't give you permannet resident status but shows that you have an I-485 pending for adjustment.
