Travel - AOS Filed, Valid H1B xtension, but no H1 stamp

Hi,
I have filed for AOS and have not received the AP thus far (though I have my EAD/FP done....) and I am currently on H1B extension till June 2003 - but the H1 stamp has expired. I need to travel out of US and was wondering what options do I have ?
1. Can I travel out of US without AP if I get a H1 stamp in my home country ?
2. Does the law require you to have a valid H1 stamp even for leaving US if you do not have an AP ?( I read somewhere, that you "cannot leave or re-enter US if you do not have an AP" during AOS only exceptions being H1/L1 - Does this mean I need to have a valid stamping before I leave US ?

3. Are there any repurcussions in H1 Visa issuance if I have filed for AP (showing immigration intentions ?)

You can get visa stamping from India. However it is best have AP. You can get one within 90 days of applying for one or else during emergencies, the local INS issues AP immediately.

Why better haing AP?One will lose H1 status if using AP.
