  • No last name - problem with EAD

My wife does not have a last name in any of her documents, just a first name (Ex: ABC). So in the I-485 application we left the last name blank. We wanted to get her last name changed in her passport before applying, but did not have time.
Now the I-485 reciept and her EAD show her last name as "ABC" (actually first name) and first name as "No Name Given".

We called USCIS support about this, first time they said we just need to send a letter asking for correction, which we immediatly did. Its been two months and I haven't heard back. When I called again, they said we've to resubmit EAD application requesting for replacement card. This will take another 30 days.

    Questions:
    1. Is her EAD valid with the switched first and last names? Can she work with that EAD, while we wait for correction? Social security office had no problem issuing SSN with that EAD card.

2.What is the best way to get this corrected?

3.Can we now change her last name as my first name with a marriage certificate?

    Appreciate any input on this.

    Thanks!
