Switch to EAD as independent contrator, what is the formality? Urgent Help pls

I am on H1B and switching to EAD as an independent contractor from next monday.
I would like to know how to establish the fact that I am not using the H1B and converting to use the EAD with the company that I will be providing service to.

Could you please help? Urgent.

have the company fill out an I-9 with your EAD.

I asked the company's accounts manager and the reply was they would fill an I-9 only for permanent employees and not for independent contrators.
Please help. everything is set for starting my contract on Monday next week. If I could not do this, I would atleast continue on H1 and not lose my H1 status.
