Question on using AP while on H1b

I have the following questions. Please help me understand the process.

Right now I am on H1B and recently got my extension. I don't have stamping in my passport yet. Currently I am planning to go to India in May 2008 for a month. I have AP applied and approved thru Oct-2008.

1. Do I need to have valid stamping in Passport to return back to US?

2. Can I use my AP while return and still use H1B after coming back from India?

3. Once I use my AD, still my H1B is valid?

4. If answer is yes for above questions, Can I go for stamping later in 2008 to Canada for my H1B after using AD once?

5. Are the documents EAD and AP are related by any means or Are those independent.

I spoke to my attorney the other day & he told me that using AP doesn't invalidate your H-1B.
