  • Unrestricted SSN possible after EAD?

    I read in the ssa.gov site that People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis will be issued an unrestricted SSN.

    Extract from the site:
    # The first type of card shows your name and Social Security number and lets you work without restriction. We issue it to:

    * U.S. citizens; and
    * People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis.

    My husband has a "valid for work with INS authorization" SSN card.
    As part of GC processing both of us received our EAD. They say that if u receive an EAD its as good as having received the Green card. Is that so? Can we apply for an unrestricted SSN for my husband now??

    what are the benefits of an unrestricted ssn?

    Thanx for the help.

    Swetha

    who said EAD is as good as GC, EAD comes with expiration date. you have to wait till GC to get rid of the clause.
