Reentering USA

Hello,

My friend, has a current Employment Authorization Card (A12) that expires 3/0/09. Her son in El Salvador is gravely ill and she would like to travel there to visit him. What does she need to do from an immigration standpoint to do this? how long would she be able to stay? and will she be able to re-enter the U.S.?

That depends upon what her legal status in US is.

All my friends has is the Work Authorization Card....no other cards, so I assume she is illegal. But if she has a U.S. govt issued Work Authorization Card shouldn't that mean she is entitled to be here in the U.S. to work until the card's expiration date? In other words: that she can travel out and then back into the U.S. so long as it is still within the timeframe on the Work Authorization Card?

EAD is not the legal status. EAD comes along with some other legal status. That is why I asked.
