Renewal EAD/L2 visa

I have L2 visa and have an EAD which is valid only till end of this month as my visa is expiring this month.Although we have applied for a visa extension since february, we haven't got any response from USCIS yet but I am expecting to get the visa in the next few days.But my problem is that I cannot apply for renewal of my EAD as it would definitely require the new visa status.
IS there any work around solution for this problem.Please help.Can I still carry on working when I my application for renewal of EAD is filed and pending? What is the processing time for getting a renewal EAD?

No Extension petition approval ----> No EAD extension approval----> Should not work
