  • Can I quit my current employer

Once I get my EAD (or approval),
Can I quit my current emplyer who is sponsering my EAD and greencard and switch my job?
Can I start my own business in US in a different field altogether?
Can my wife start her own business as she will get her EAD as my depandant?

    Thanks in advance.

Just like getting a GC through a USC Spouse, you are supposed to continue married and loyal to this spouse. Why is this any different with employers? they are sponsoring your GC and you are leaving them? isn't the point of them sponsoring you that you can continue working for them past your H1B expiration date?

I understand that I need to be loyal to my employer because they are sponsering my GC but till what time I have to be loyal to the employer? Till I get my GC? I was told by some friend that I can quit 6 months after I get the EAD.

EAD is just temporary. You can quit your employer and be in the same/similar job with another employer which is referred to as AC21.

Once you get the GC, you are expected to work for the sponsoring employer or the changed employer using AC21 for 6 months at the least.

Not on approval notice but after she gets a card. It is a good idea to ensure that your I140 is approved before that as a denial of I140 at any time would render the business to be closed as the basis of I485 and derivative EAD is tied to I140 approval.

And you being on H1b, should in no form or means work/hold any position in that business.
