EAD Fee & Diff b/w new EAD & its renewal

Hi,

QUESTION 1:
My i485 was filed in Aug 2007. As per the USCIS site, if i485 is filed AFTER 7/30/2007 then there is no Fee for EAD.
But I paid $300 to my lawyer and my EAD receipt do show $180 receipt amount.
Then what is this clause of no fee AFTER 7/30/2007 means.

Now, I am applying for renewal of this EAD. Do I have to pay Fee or there is no Fee ?


QUESTION 2:
What is the difference b/w renewal of unexpired EAD versus applying for EAD after the previous one gets expired.

Yes, it is confusing.

There is no fee for the first EAD that is applied with the I485 if you paid fees according to the new fee structure in Aug 2007 which you may have not.

You need to pay the $340 fee for renewing your EAD if your petition was on the basis of the July 2007 fiasco.

Q2. There is no difference except that you include a copy of the EAD for renewals.
