  • EAD renewal query- I485 pending

    Hello friends,

I received my renewed EAD card and found the validity dates do not start after the expiry of my current card but about three months earlier. Is it a problem? Do I need to let USCIS know about this error?

    Please provide your suggestions.

    thank you

I thin, it is not an error. That is how it works. EAD start date is the date of approval rather than the end date of your previously approved EAD.

That means, you keep losing a portion of EAD usable period if you apply too early in advance and help to generate more revenue for USCIS.

Very true. The USCIS desperately needs money and the only way to get it is from poor non-immigrants - double EAD/AP filing fees, shorten duration of visas, add $1000 premium fee for I-140, add some new bioscan security fee.
The department of driving services is also desperate for money. Previously, driving licences were issued for 5 years to anyone. Now, it is only issued for the duration on the EAD. If the EAD expires in July 2009, driving licence needs to be renewed in July 2009 so we need to pay another $20 to the driving licence department.
AILA must file a lawsuit against USCIS asking for justification for doubling EAD/AP fees.

Well, everything has gotten expensive with the rising costs and inflation. So, that justifies the fee increase. They have tried to give EADs for two years now which is a good move.

But yes, making old-new EAD a Finish-Start relationship would be great!

I'm not sure about the DL. The state I live in has no such restrictions if one has a valid SSN.

My neighbor just received his renewed EAD card - EB3 category PD dates unavailable, validity 1 year. He called the USCIS and they said its upto the UCSIS to decide who gets a 1 year and who gets a 2 year validity on their EAD.

It is only for approvals after June that they will issue 2 year EADs I guess. And like any other thing to change with a State organization, this change will probably take place on it's own pace.
