  • Do I need to stay in the US after I applied for EAD?

My husband and me are planning to move to the US. He on L1 visa and me on L2. Now I have a question about EAD.
I heard you can only apply once you are in the US, and you can not start to work immediately.
I still have a job in my home country and now my idea was to go to the US, apply for the work permit, come back home and work for 3 more months. Now i was wondering how much time I would need to file the application. Can I just do this in a few days (i can only take 1 week leave from my work) or do I need much more time? Am I allowed to leave the country while I applied for EAD?
    All advice is welcome!

Yes, you are required to stay as your status (L2) is checked from your I-94 and if you leave and return the I-94, your status of L2 can no longer be verified.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
