Travelling out of USA on AP

Hi
I overstayed for 5 years. my wife is USC, got EAD and AP. Please advice how safe it will be to visit India for a couple of weeks and come back before getting GC.

Not at all safe. AP does not guaranty you a return as you have been illegal.
