  • EAD Delay

    Hi,

I applied for my EAD card in March for Post-completion OPT and it has been 90 days but I haven't yet got my card.

When I try to check the status online using my receipt number it says Case Status not Found, so I ve been calling USCIS to check the status of the application. Last week I was told that my EAD has been approved and my card has gone into production. Today I was told that my case is still pending and EAD not yet approved.

I am quite anxious because of this conflicting information from the USCIS.

I have scheduled an InfoPass appointment to speak to an officer. Can anyone advise me on what I need to do to expedite my EAD and/or get an interim EAD.

If there is anyone who has also experienced EAD processing delay, please shed light on your experience. Thanks!

    Still waiting - 88th day

Mine is not OPT but I am still waiting for my renewed EAD - today is the 88th day from Receipt Date.

My case number didn't show up on the web too, and I have been calling the 800 number.

My receipt notice was dated on April 2.

Last year the receipt notice was dated on March 31, and my fingerprint was on May1, and EAD was mailed on May 14, I received EAD in hand on May 19. So, it was less than 2 months. Because FP is valid for 15 months I don't need to get FP again this year for renewal of EAD yet, so I thought it would be much faster than last year - I sent renewal application accordingly, not knowing there has been a big delay on issuing EAD.

2 months have passed and didn't hear anything. 800# only let me know it was still penging. On June 16 I got Infopass anyway at my local office even though it states to make appointment only if 90 days has passed. I kind of knew the local office couldn't help anyway but I tried anyway. Maybe they make mistake and give me an interim card. Nah. The officer was extremely rude and she didn't even seem to know exactly what had been happening to my case. Other officer at the admin window was more helpful in terms of EAD info- Local office no longer issues Interim card - she said they removed the card production machine from the local office so the local office cannot make the interim cards even if they want to in order for them to solve cases pending over 90days.

On June 17, I called 800# to place "service Request". After 90days pass, you can place "experdite request". But it may be good idea to try to put the latter even if before 90days - try anyway.

On June 23 I called to double check the status of my EAD application, and found they assigned an officer to follow up my case on June 19. I also complained about my case not being able to see online and being very inconvenient to have to call every single time. "It's almost 90days anyway and putting this complain to Service Request is kind of waste of time", the officer on the phone said, and I did agree. The most important is to get me EAD, don't waste time on putting effort to list my case online, you know?

On June 29 I called 800# again to check my status and found my case has been put online - interesting. I guess the officer who I talked with on 23rd did something for me. And found my case status is "card production ordered". Hopefully within a week I receive my new EAD. I see some cases took longer, but mostly 5-10 business days. I am guessing, once the status changes to "mailed", it will arrive in my hand about at most 5days, I see some people get it in one day after status being "mailed".

    Hope yours will come soon.

      EAD came on 90th day

      FYI

My renewed EAD arrived in USPS mail today July 2. It's the 90th day since the receipt notice date April 2 (though the officer said 90 days obligation is to "produce" EAD, not to have the EAD be in hand of applicant, when I called to clarify the 90day rule).

The USCIS status online still shows "production ordered", though.

The card show it is valid from June24, and mailed out on June 30: I wasted a week just to wait on the card to arrive. I could have worked. They need to change the system.

Anyhow it is a good thing USPS regular mail arrived safely. Last time the Service Request's confirmation notice emvelope arrived ripped OPEN. USPS said it might happen when the machine caught the edge of the emvelope somehow and ripped it. Well, possible, but USCIS better use safer method, if the actual card is that much important to have to be in applicant's hand in order for the applicant to work.

Those who are still waiting for delayed EAD - make sure to call USCIS and talk to Level 2 officer not Level 1; Level 1s onlly tell you what you have already know.
