Passport changed after AP got approved. please advice

Friends,

I kids passport for expired while his stay in india. He suppose to return to US with a approved AP ( which is issued with his old passport)

My question is will it be problem if he travels with new passport? I verified AP does'nt have any passport number on it. which means should not be any problem.

does anybody came across this situation? please advice.

I got through immigration this weekend with my new passport. I renewed my passport in October but applied for my AP in Sep. So I don't think it is a problem. This is just my experience.
