  • Requesting expedition over phone

    Hi,

I've been waiting 191 days for my EAD now; I should be about to receive a new job offer and there's a chance I'll get laid off from my current job, because my company just got bought by another one. I thought I would try expediting it when I get the job offer, since from what I can tell, it doesn't hurt to try. I made an InfoPass appointment but I'm wondering if I should try to do it over the phone first. Has anyone done this successfully? I tried calling USCIS the other day but could not at all figure out how to get through to a person to talk to about expediting. The menu options were not helpful.

    Thanks!

How long away is your InfoPass appointment? You can certainly make a request over the phone, but you will need to fax your support documents to the NBC right away. It sounds like you would be filing under the basis of "severe financial loss to individual" but you may have to wait until you have a written job offer in hand. USCIS will require "proof" of this financial loss in order to consider your request.

We made an expedite request for my husbands EAD/AP over the phone, and the best way to get through to a person is to not press any buttons and just wait. The phone system will assume you are on a rotary phone and they'll connect you to a live person. Sometimes it will connect you to a Spanish speaking rep, so in that case just request English lol.

My husbands EAD/AP was actually approved the week following the expedite request, so nothing ever came of it. The processing time was 202 days, so it sounds like yours should be just around the corner!

This is all really helpful, thanks!! The InfoPass appointment is on Wednesday but I don't think I'll have the offer in hand by then.

Hi. Came across your post. We went with an Infopass appointment in March 2019. The officer told us that the best option is to write a letter with a request to expedite, citing reasons and attaching proof why you need your EAD to be expedited. We sent it to our National Benefits Center, the office that wrote you the Notice of Intent. and in 2 weeks, I got the EAD approval. Wait time is 129 days(from my original AOS,EAD filing in Dec. 2018). I got the EAD document tomorrow and I checked online, my card is on its way.
So, write and send it thru FedEx or UPS so the National Benefits Center gets it ASAP. The officer told us that getting an Infopass appointment is not recommended because all the info is online now,he said. I'm quoting him.
