Hi! As someone whose EAD card got sent back by the Post office on Nov 17, 2018 and who only finally got it re-delivered today, I thought I'd share the infos how to ensure you get it the card first time.
1) Make sure your last name is in the mailbox. Don't assume if you get all other mail, you'll get the card delivered too.
2) Sign up for USPS Informed delivery. My card's tracking info popped up the day after case status went to "card has been mailed"
3) Sign up for a USCIS account - you'll be able to set up text and email alerts for when the status changes, and the tracking info is supposed to show up there (I didn't know about it first time, and it was't there for re-mail, but still worth trying)
4) If your tracking number is not on the USCIS account and no info is available in the Informed delivery the day after status goes to "card has been mailed", call USCIS hotline: (800) 375-5283. Best sequence to talk to a human is 1 1 2 2
5) Talk to your postman and explain that you are expecting a very important document. When you have a tracking number, leave a note with the number in your mailbox
That's all I've got. If anyone else knows some other tricks, please share. After all the stress waiting for the card to get approved, you do not want to hurt yourself by allowing the card to go back.
And if you do get unlucky, do not bother requesting a re-mail, just file for a replacement card right away - replacement card receipt allows you to work for up to 90 days; re-mail took me 126 days and that with Congressman's help
Good luck, hope you find this helpful!
