  • Why are case stuck at "received" for months

I have been so anxious about my own case and so tracked quite a few cases way before me at NBC. I was surprised to see that many cases are stuck at the first "received" stage for 6 months. Does anyone know why this is so? I thought that, while the whole process takes long, going to the biometrics stage is usually within a month. If anyone experienced such delay in the very first stage, could you share if you had any communication with them and why biometrics/bc haven't been done after 5 or 6 months?

    Thank you,

Some Field Officers don't update the cases in the system. This happens a lot for example when you apply for I-765 and I-131 together. Normally you will see I-765 updated but I-131 will never change even when it was approved. Other cases are when there are a primary beneficiary and spouse. Sometimes spouse case doesn't get updated.

All this along with huge inconsistencies throughout the process. That said It's normal to wait now between 5 and 7 months. My case so far has been there for 6 and 1/2 months.

Did you check this? If you still have time on your H1-B you might be able to extend it.
