Without a Job on EAD

Hi,

If a company decides to lay off an individual who currently has EAD and has 485 was filed few years back. Can this individual go out of status if he is not able to find another employer immediately or is there a time period for which he can be jobless.

Will the situation be any different if the EAD is not yet used and the individual is on a currently working on an H1B.

Any inputs would be appreciated.

Person is out of status either way immediately. There is no grace period. But small duration may be tolerated in later green card processing.
