Form I-765 with existing H-1b status

Hello,
My current H-1B status expires on Jan 24, 2020. I am about to submit my I-130, I-485, I-864 package in a few days. My university told me that I could apply for an extension in H-1b status by using my "re-capture time". This is the time I have been out of the country for vacation. My total recapture time is 4 months. If the recapture time is approved which will extend my work permit till May 24, 2020 do I still need to submit I-765 form?

If I were to apply for I-765 will it affect my current H-1b status?
