  • EAD before Biometrics

    Hello.

I have applied for a family based GC this year February. I had a biometrics apointment in March but the ASC closed due to covid. I haven’t been rescheduled yet for biometrics ( correct me if I am wrong but it supposed to be automatically rescheduled ).
A few days ago I’ve received my I765 and my I131 approval notice, and today I’ve been sent a SSN card which is “valid for work only with DHS authorization”.

I am a happy for it but a bit confused at the same time. Shouldn’t this happen after the biometrics ? Am I eligible to work with this SSN card or do I have to wait for the combo card ? What rights am I granted at this point ? What can I expect next ?

Thank you for taking your time and reading it !

Perhaps you had previous biometrics which were used?
USC filed AOS for parents on B2. I am not a lawyer.

The USCIS database maintains fingerprints that were previously submitted for a certain period of time (I think it's 2 yrs).
So if you had submitted these previously, and the prints are still valid in their database, all they do is run them again. If all's good, you will receive your EAD.

SSN will say "with DHS authorization only" as you are not a permanent resident yet.
EAD is proof of "DHS authorization" . So you need to wait for that card (EAD or EAD/AP) before joining an employer.

Thanks for your reply. The only time I’ve recall my fingerprints ( all 10 ) have been taken was when entering the US sometime before. Also they scheduled me for biometrics in March so probably they wanted my fingerprints, that’s why it makes me confused. Should I enquiry USCIS to make sure everything is on track ?

I have the same issue. I receieved my combo card and fonger print part is empty. Im curious if that will be an issue to travel with this card without finger print.. let me know if you find out..
