  • EAD without biometrics in I-485

    Hello everyone,

I once asked my lawyers if I have to give biometrics before getting my EAD and he said no.

I see posts asking how long is the wait for EAD after submitting biometrics, and other posts mention they received EAD before giving their biometrics.

My I-765 was accepted on May 28th 2020. It’s almost three months since it was submitted and I have not received my biometrics appointment. Do you think I’ll have to wait till after biometrics are taken? Or are the EAD and biometrics are two separate processes?

I don’t know if this is relevant but one year ago I got and OPT-based EAD without biometrics.

    Thank you!

My I-765 was approved on May 21st. I waited for the card in the mail. I didn't get it. Then I got a letter asking me to come for biometrics appointment at the beginning of August. I just had my biometrics appointment last week. But the day I did biometrics, they ordered my card and it has been sent out to me. I'm just waiting for it to arrive - and am fervently tracking it.

Some people did get EAD if I think they had previously submitted biometrics for something else.

The real issue though is all the crap that's been going on with the administration essentially trying to stop USCIS from doing its business properly. That seems to have slowed up a lot of things over the past 3 months. In any case, the centers are also now just re-opening for appointments so that could also have something to do with it.

    Have you called USCIS?

      Thanks for replying!

I have called the USCIS today. They said EAD and biometrics are two separate processes. However, if I want to request and expedite, I have to give my biometrics first. May I ask when you submitted your EAD application?

Also, I think if your EAD is approved, you don’t need to wait for the physical card to start getting paid.

As for the current administration, I think they’re slowing everything down because they don’t people to vote in November, let alone newly naturalized people.

My EAD application was submitted Feb 18th. Approved May 21st. I just got the card in my hand today.

Now you don't have to wait for the physical card - that's a new rule though. So yeah, you can just go ahead and start working with the approval notice, if you were approved between December last year and August 20th of this year I believe. (don't quote me on that).

I agree re: the current administration. Really disgusting behavior on their part. I'm NOT impressed.
